PAL is the only
cultural resources management firm in New England with a fully equipped
diving program that operates in compliance with the stringent guidelines for
scientific diving promulgated by the American Academy of Underwater Sciences
(AAUS). We
offer a full range of underwater archaeological survey services, including
archival research, predictive modeling, non-disturbance remote-sensing
survey, intensive survey and evaluation, data recovery, artifact
conservation and curation, and site stabilization. Our underwater
archaeologists are highly-trained and experienced cultural resource
management professionals, with diverse backgrounds in anthropology,
prehistoric and historic underwater archaeology, geoarchaeology, marine
biology, marine remote sensing survey and data analyses, underwater photo-
and videography, ROV operations, maritime history, watercraft design and
construction, artifact conservation, submerged site stabilization and
management, commercial and scientific diving (surface-supplied air and
scuba), geographic information systems (GIS), and public education.
PAL adheres to OSHA regulations pertaining to scientific diving operations,
(CFR 29, Part 1910, Subpart T), and the Standards for Scientific Diving
Certification and Operation of Scientific Diving Programs, established
and revised (2001) by the American Academy of Underwater Sciences. PAL’s
Scientific Diving Safety Manual (2002) is in compliance with regulation
30.A.11 of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Safety and Health
Requirements Manual (EM 385-1-1[1996]). All of PAL’s underwater
archaeological diving operations are performed using a surface-supplied air
diving mode tended and/or monitored from the surface at all times by a
diving safety officer and/or project diving supervisor (PDS), with a fully
dressed-in safety diver and safety-diver tender on standby. |
