management firm in New England, is seeking applicants for the position of
Historical Archaeologist. The successful candidate will coordinate the
technical and logistical aspects of research, fieldwork, data collection and
analysis, and technical report preparation within project-specific research
objectives. Assigned projects primarily consist of locations with documented
historic period archaeological resources in a variety of urban, suburban,
and rural settings. Project responsibilities range from conducting archival
research, photo-documentation, and survey mapping/recordation to the
development of detailed historical contexts and research designs in support
of all phases of archaeological investigation. The Historical Archaeologist reports to the projects Senior Archaeologist and, on specific projects, to the assigned Project Manager. The Historical Archaeologist provides support to Senior Staff on a variety of projects, but also works independently on designated projects. General responsibilities will include:

| Field Archaeologists | |

PAL, the leading cultural resource management and historic preservation planning consulting firm in New England, seeks field archaeologists. Projects include survey and testing (both prehistoric and historic sites) for a variety of clients. Degree and field school (or its equivalent) is required. Field experience, beyond field school is preferred. Applicants should be based in (or be willing to relocate to) the Rhode Island/MA/CT area. Field archaeologists will travel within New England, with per diem provided on travel projects. Pay rate is commensurate with experience and employment references. |

Requirements include: < basic map reading and orienteering skills; < the ability to use field tools (shovels, trowels, etc.) and conduct fieldwork in a wide range of physically demanding conditions; < the ability to identify historic and prehistoric cultural materials; < the ability to recognize a range of soil and ground conditions and record soil color, texture, and composition; and < the ability to travel.
