Block Island Archaeology Day

Visit Block Island on October 1, 2016, to learn about the archaeological heritage of the Manissee, the island’s original Native American residents. Hosted by the Block Island Historical Society, this event will feature lectures by archaeologists Joseph Waller of The Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc. at 11:00 am and Kevin McBride of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center at 1:00 pm. Rhode Island State Archaeologist Timothy Ives will provide a stone tool-making demonstration at 2:30 p.m. Between events, please peruse the society’s beautiful museum gallery and gift shop, view a display on southern Rhode Island’s cultural landscape prepared by archaeologist Dawn Beamer of the University of Connecticut, and enjoy a brand new exhibit on Block Island archaeology.
