PAL is hosting the annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA) and the Advisory Council for Underwater Archaeology (ACUA) on January 14-19, 2003 at the award winning Westin Hotel in the heart of downtown Providence. The theme for the conference is Trade and Industrialization. Providence’s rich history as a center of mercantilism and manufacturing make it uniquely suited to host such a conference, particularly in light of its on-going urban revitalization program that has successfully balanced the demands of city renewal with the maintenance of historical integrity. The Society for Historical Archaeology was formed in 1967 and represents the largest international group of historical archaeologists and related scholars. Once a year, this diverse group of professionals from academia, CRM companies, and State and Government agencies come together to fulfill the Society’s main objective: “To promote scholarly research and the dissemination of knowledge concerning historical archaeology. The society is specifically concerned with the identification, excavation, interpretation, and conservation of sites and materials on land and underwater.” |

Because of the voluntary nature of the conference organization and the non-profit (501(c) (3)) status of SHA, the organization and funding of special conference events such as receptions, luncheons and complimentary coffee and tea service between paper sessions poses a particular challenge of time and resources. If you or your company are interested in helping us meet this challenge, please consider a contribution of $100, $150, $250 or more. In exchange for your sponsorship, you will enjoy several benefits including:
For a contribution of $250 or more: the opportunity to include promotional information in the conference registration packages Sponsorship at the SHA 2003 conference will provide advertising exposure to a large international audience of cultural resource management and museum professionals, state and federal regulatory agencies, college and university staff, and students.
